HISTORY

The American version of Cocker Spaniel is derived from English Cocker Spaniel. In the late 1800s many English Cockers were brought to America. However, American hunters preffered a smaller dog to hunt quail and other small game birds. Just how thas smaller cocker was developed is not entirely clear; most refer to dog “Obo 2 nd”, born around 1880, as a true American Cocker Spaniel. Another opinion is that English Cockers were crossed with even smaller Toy Spaniels of those times.

American Cocker Spaniel has remained the most popular breed of all time in America for many years. Only recently its popularity spread to England and throughout the rest of the world.

Either way, the dog will need regular trimming. When brushing, be careful not to pull out the silky hair. This breed is an average shedder. The eyes need regular cleaning.
